The outbreak of swine flu last year resulted in large scale vaccination programs being launched by the Government. Health experts stress that due to strong immunization last year, traditional flu outbreak did not take pace. This outbreak generally starts in December and runs till April every year.
Medical experts also analyzed mortality rates in swine flu victims. It reports that almost 90 percent of swine flu victims were children and pregnant women. Generally, flu affects older patients more than people under the age of 65. In a normal flu outbreak, 90% of deaths occur in patients aged 65 years or more.
Heath experts warn that swine flu threat is still there and to take it lightly would be a big mistake. They stress that Alabama, Georgia and Southern states are reporting increased number of swine flu infections.
Experts feel that the general public needs to be made aware of the risks associated with swine flu and the need to maintain a high level of preparedness.
Some experts feel that the threat posed by swine flu may have been overblown by medical community as well as media reports. But it is argued that it helped save a lot of lives which otherwise would have been lost.
It is already been proposed that from next season people will be getting vaccinated both for seasonal flu as well as H1N1 strain.
