Australia Health System Faces Shortage in Hospital’s Intern Places
Australia's health system

Recently it was noted that the Australia's health system which is an importer of overseas trained doctors was facing a lack in hospital intern places because the number of home grown medical graduates were rising.

It was noted that since 2000 around 10 new medical schools had opened up. It was told by the hospitals that regarding the inter places they could not cope up because of the rising number of Australian trained medical graduates.

David Studdert who is the professor of the University of Melbourne said it was an extraordinary situation and the medical graduates would be required to go off-shore to acquire hospital experience.

"For the first time in the history of Australian medical education, some medical graduates are likely to have no opportunities to undertake internships in Australia", said Prof. Studdert in a paper published in the Medical Journal of Australia.

It was observed that from the year 2007 to 2012 Australia's number of medical school increased by 86% from 1586 to 2945.

Prof. Studdert added that the present rules would focus on Australian trained medical practitioners who would like to stay in their homelands.
