The New Zealand AIDS Memorial Quilt website has been launched on 1 May 2010.
The website pays homage to those, who are on the 139 panels of the New Zealand AIDS Memorial Quilt, who paid a visit from all regions of NZ from the Far North to the Deep South.
Michael Bancroft, the present Guardian of the Quilt said that the website launch was intended to pay tribute and keep a permanent record of all those, who left their loved ones untimely because of HIV/AIDS.
This is in fact a novel idea, which will give an opportunity to the families and friends, who have lost their loved ones to the disease and can post their thoughts or messages in remembrance of those individuals.
The Quilt is a commemorative plaque to those, who died of HIV, and associated illnesses and comprises of 3 feet by 6 feet panels, which are connected with each other, in groups of eight, so as to form blocks.
Each fabric panel is affectionately formed by family, friends, partners or colleagues and is as exclusive as the individual it remembers and those who formed it.
