PHAC Calls for Urgent Planning of Urban Health in New Zealand

The Public Health Advisory Committee has been able to highlight a variety of health related issues that are associated with the design of cities and towns.

As per the submitted report, it illustrates that the Minster of Health should do something about taking care of the health problems of urban dwellers that are hampered because of city designs, else there could be graver problems that people may face in the approaching days.

The report demonstrates a strong association between urban environments and health of the dwellers.

Pauline Barnett, PHAC Chair and Associate Professor in the Department of Public Health and General Practice at Otago University stated that 86% people in New Zealand reside in urban regions.

However, with the growing population, there is less space and this is why, people do not indulge much in taking a walk or jog.

Urban air pollutants are a major factor, causing respiratory illnesses in people, further making them unhealthy and difficult to live their lives.

The report also suggests that, people who are aged and kids, run a higher risk of getting unwell every now and then, because of the present scenario in the urban areas.
