According to news reports, Google is preparing to introduce Google TV later this month, with the Google I/O convention on 19-20 May, it is said to be the most apt date for the huge declaration.
Meanwhile, there are also rumors doing the rounds that Google is looking for collaborations with leading players like Sony Corporation, Intel, and Logitech, to capitalize on the prospects of success.
Google TV, which hasn’t been named formally so far, will run on the Google Android operating system, and would add online applications like web searches and other Internet content to video entertainment.
The Google software for set-top boxes could offer customers an option to cable/satellite packages which are now available. Profits would be raised from the web-based ads that would touch far off viewers than they do currently.
If the idea is successful, it could transform the face of TV, turning every set, geared with the software, into an Internet terminal.
The first product to utilize Google TV is likely to be a set-top box running an edition of Android called Dragonpoint, and using an Intel Atom processor and Logitech remote control.
The gadget, linked to TV sets and even Blu-ray DVD players, would effectively let them act as computers running Internet searches, YouTube, and other Internet apps.
