Singapore prime minister sends condolence to Thai counterpart

Singapore - Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong Friday sent a letter of condolences to his Thai counterpart, Abhisit Vejjajiva, for the New Year's Day fire at the Santika Club in Bangkok.

"I was deeply saddened to learn of the tragic loss of lives in the fire at the Santika Club in Bangkok on January 1, 2009," said Lee in the letter.

Lee also conveyed Singapore government condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims.

The Santika fire left at least 59 dead, including one Singaporean, and more than 240 injured. (dpa)
