Australian Travel Agents Win Case- Quantas To Pay Millions

In an over turn of events Australian travel agents have won the case against Australian airline group Quantas, leading the airline group to pay millions to the agents.

According to the sources the sitting court in Sydney made the ruling clear that fuel surcharge is the part of the ticket price and commissions must be paid accordingly. The airline group was asked to account for damages and pay the travel agents the underpaid commissions.

Following the court's decision, a Quantas spokesman expressed disappointment over the decision.

According to Slater and Gordon lawyer Steven Lewis, the travel agents are extremely happy with the decision. He further says that, 'the court has made a decision in favor of the travel agents, thus the airlines should now sit down, do the right thing and negotiate a settlement with the agents.'

The action was filed by the travel agents in 2006 against major international airlines like Quantas, Air New Zealand, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Singapore and Malaysian Airlines.

As per the reports Mr. Lewis pressed on the fact, that the ruling could also have implications for all the other international airlines as well.

In the wake of judgment, as one side of the travel agents is celebrating, Quantas Airlines, on the other hand is calculating figures in millions to pay the underpaid commissions.
