Asthma is a major disease and close to 300 million people suffer from this condition around the world and it leads to the death of 250,000 people globally, but very few people are aware of what to do in case someone near them has an asthma attack. A couple of simple steps can help save the life of someone suffering from asthma.
A recent study revealed that almost 90% people are not aware what to do in case someone near them is having an asthma attack. The patient should be made to sit in a relaxed manner.
The arms of the patient should be supported properly. Then by using an inhaler the person needs to be given puffs of breath. The patient should be given puffs slowly and not in a hurried manner. Then the patient can be given up to 36 breaths. It will generally help the patient feel much better.
If there is still no improvement in his condition, an ambulance needs to be called immediately. The operator must be told that the patient is having an acute attack of asthma. Only should keep giving 6 puffs every minute till the ambulance arrives.
The most important thing is not to panic and stay calm. There should not be any crowd around the patient and efforts should be made to make sure that the patient is not disturbed by anyone.
By following these simple steps, an asthma patient can be helped in case of an asthma attack.
