Around 15 consumer groups have recently filed complaints with the Federal Trade Commission due to these recent changes made by Facebook. These groups have urged FTC to look into the way Facebook handles data of its users. A Senator in New York had voiced concerns about Facebook sharing user's information with others.
The change in features now makes a user's information accessible more easily to outsiders and this information was restricted earlier. A Facebook representative declined to comment as the company needs to look at the complaint submitted to the FTC.
Facebook had earlier temporarily shut down chat feature in its website after it was discovered that it is allowing messages to be seen by people not related to a user. This was initially reported by technology blog TechCrunch.
A lot of Facebook users are unhappy with the company and feel that the company needs to take steps to handle the user data in a secure manner. Users also felt that constant changes in features by Facebook have made it very difficult and frustrating for them to keep up with these changes.
Technology analysts feel that Facebook needs to take these charges seriously or these can seriously damage the company's reputation in the long run.
