An ex- sex offender is being sent to prison again, as New York authorities feel that he is a threat to the society and is likely to indulge in reckless and irresponsible sexual behavior. He had earlier infected 13 women with AIDS and should be on trial soon, stressed New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo.
Nushawn Williams has just completed a 12-year prison sentence for statutory rape and reckless endangerment. He can be incarcerated under a provision that allows extended confinement in cases where the person is suffering from mental abnormality and is likely to indulge again in the earlier offence.
New York Supreme Court Justice, John Michalski ordered Nushawn Williams to be put back into custody as the judge felt that Williams is suffering from mental abnormality. The trial may begin sometime in the month of October this year.
But this decision has also angered the family members of Williams. His wife Nina questions if other people with HIV are also perceived as a threat. His mother, Denise Williams also felt her son is not a threat and should not be incarcerated.
He had earlier confessed to a state psychologist in March that he did not realize that he was HIV positive in 1996 and only came to know in 1997 about his condition. He argued that he did not intend to infect anyone with HIV.
Williams admitted to having unprotected sex with a lot of women. His lawyer has already filed a motion to dismiss the incarceration and it will come up for hearing on June 22.
