Christine Maggiore an AIDS cynic dies in LA

Christine Maggiore, a skeptic who questioned the cause of AIDS died in Los Angeles.  She denied accepting that HIV causes AIDS and refused to accept treatment for AIDS.

She went to the extent of suing the Los Angeles County for detecting AIDS-related pneumonia in her 3 year old daughter. Christine was 52 at the time of her death.

The skeptic breathed her last at her Van Nuys home. She was under treatment for pneumonia during the past six months. The doctors are unclear whether AIDS caused her death. Maggiore had been diagnosed as HIV positive in 1992.

The lady has such strong views that she denounced research showing that HIV causes AIDS. Maggiore had a belief that flu shots, pregnancy and common viral infections could lead to HIV. She even went to the extent of publishing  her claims in a book, "What if Everything You Thought You Knew About AIDS Was Wrong?"

Maggiore started Alive & Well AIDS Alternatives, a non-profit organization that challenges "common assumptions" about AIDS. She also had a regular podcast about the topic.

"Their lawsuit against the L.A. County coroner is pending"

It's telling that they choose NOT to sue the doctor who administered the supposed fatal dose of antibiotics... the person who supposedly directly caused the death of their daughter.

They chose instead to "shoot the messenger" and sue the people who dared to tell them would they didn't want to hear and refuse to accept.

If only the horrible reality of AIDS/HIV could be defeated so easily... by lawsuits and a childishly stubborn refusal to grow up face reality.

Ignorance isn't always bliss... sometimes it's fatal.

When we are raised in an ‘aids’ environment, the tendency is to translate everything into aids language, whilst we take what we have been told for granted. Sadly, this has the makings of pure unadulterated dogma. Christine asked fundamental questions and in so doing she deconstructed the whole issue. This was a discovery of truth but in so doing she was swimming upstream against the (aids) establishment, the bad science, the bad politics, the bad thinking, and also the masses that follow in their footsteps. Very few people have the qualities that Christine possessed and what a sad loss it has been. Rest in peace, Christine, you made a big impression and we will always love you for that. Christine Maggiore

Christine was a "skeptic" not a cynic. She sued the LA county coroner because they declared that they had found pneumonia in a child who clearly did not have pneumonia by clinical symptoms nor immune suppression by white blood cell counts, and who probably died of an adverse reaction to her first ever treatment with amoxicillin, not an uncommon thing.
The LA County coroner's last insult was to say she was under treatment for pneumonia the last 6 months. That is an error, perhaps not accidental. It should be "the last 6 days". Quite a different thing. Her last podcast, recorded on December 10th and yet to be aired, will clearly show that she was not suffering from a respiratory disorder at that time.
Christine talked about scientific evidence (published, peer-reviewed papers, that showed that flu shots, pregnancy etc., could lead to "false positive HIV tests", not "HIV".

Thanks for your comments

As Many people objected, i have made a modification to the story.

Thanks a lot for your inputs.

Christine Maggiore

I knew Christine personally and would like to correct some information here.

Christine was indeed diagnosed HIV positive in 1992, but subsequent tests -- more than a dozen -- came out various ways. This is what led Christine to question AIDS dogma. If you were told you had five years to live, wouldn't you want to know how reliable that test was?

Christine was a tireless seeker of truth, scientific and otherwise. Her book does not contain "claims" but instead heavily researched conclusions, which she was constantly updating. She never relied on "belief" to reach her conclusions or to tell her that "flu shots, pregnancy and common viral infections could lead to HIV." These are documented in the peer-reviewed scientific literature as cross-reactive on the so-called "HIV tests." And they do not "lead to HIV" but to a false-positive test result.

Personal correspondence from Christine to a friend reveals that she was diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia less than a month before her death. If this was "AIDS," AIDS would have to have a 16-year latency period. See http://www.deanesmay.com/2009/01/02/in-her-own-words-a-dec-19-email-from... .

The most likely cause of her death was stress. Christine lost her daughter to an antibiotic reaction in 2005, and this was wrongly attributed to "AIDS," leading to her and her husband being criminally investigated. Their lawsuit against the L.A. County coroner is pending, and she often said that this was stressful. In October, she was the subject of a fictionalized TV episode of "Law and Order" based on her life, in which in she dies at the end. She told me that watching the episode made her feel ill. She kept working through most of the past three years, very hard.

Her husband and son are alive, HIV-negative, and healthy. Not one supposed victim of her work and information has yet come forward.

I also object to the word "cynic" used in any connection to her. She was least cynical person I have ever met. Skeptical, inquiring, tirelessly seeking the truth, and sometimes angry, but never cynical.

Lovely photo of a great woman. A slight correction. She fell ill suddenly. She only suffered from pneumonia for some days before she died - and not to be the kind linked to AIDS. (The Coroner has told the press, without requesting an autopsy, that she had been treated in the last six months for pneumonia of some kind - well she had, but only for a few days. ) As far as I know, she never had any AIDS-linked illness in her life and her children were never found HIV positive.

Her husband Robin wrote a few days ago a public email to say
"Christine never fully recovered from the unjust treatment that she received around the loss of Eliza Jane and that treatment ultimately exhausted her.

"A week and a half ago, Christine was diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia and did not conjure the strength to overcome it. She died unexpectedly in her home with her husband and a dear friend. Christine Maggiore’s death is a shock and devastating blow to her family and to the thousands of people around the world who loved and respected her."

Christine Maggiore's Death is Justice for HIV Positive's

She directly and indirectly caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people and her own daughter by neglecting care for the girl's HIV infection.

She was a witch whose death relieves our earth from one more piece of trash.

AIDS Denialism did not die with Christine Maggiore

The death of Christine Maggiore is tragic just as her life was tragic. She was mislead by fringe scientists Peter Duesberg and David Rasnick and other AIDS Denialists. Ultimately she promoted their pseudoscience at her own peril.

Many others were harmed by her relentless promoting of false information that confused people about HIV testing and treatment. We should respect the decision of an informed person to refuse treatment for any serious medical condition.

But the problem with AIDS denialism is that people are making testing and treatment decisions based on misinformation and disinformation spread by AIDS pseudoscientists and conspiracy theorists. The sad story of AIDS denialism that enmeshed Christine Maggiore is told in a new book Denying AIDS: Conspiracy Theories, Pseudoscience, and Human Tragedy (all Royalties donated to buy HIV medications in Africa).
