New Hope for Parkinson Patients
Parkinson’s disease

From the reports on Thursday it was seen that the stem cells collected from the inside layer of a woman's uterus changed into brain cells when injected into mice. The brains of these mice were already damaged which was same as Parkinson's disease.

It was told by a team at Yale University School of Medicine in Connecticut that women with Parkinson's could themselves serve as their own stem cell donors.

"Endometrial tissue is probably the most readily available, safest, most easily attainable source of stem cells that is currently available. We hope the cells we derived are the first of many types that will be used to treat a variety of diseases", said Yale's Dr. Hugh Taylor.

It was seen that Taylor’s findings were published in the Journal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine.

He added that the body's master cells were the stem cells. The adult stem cells were found in the endometrium lining the uterus.

Taylor explained that the endometrial stem cells produced less of an immune system rejection response compared to other stem cells types. He added that every month these cells were dropped by women when had menstruating.

He informed that Parkinson's disease was caused by the damaging of brain cells which produced dopamine. Dopamine was an important message carrying chemical.
