Clearwire Plans to Offer WiMAX Enabled Phones

It was recently told by the executive that Clearwire was planning to sell its WiMAX enabled phones later this year.

It was noted that Clearwire was around 55% percent owned by Sprint Nextel. Clearwire quarter was ended with 971,000 subscribers on revenue of $106.7 million. Around 72% percent compared to a year ago.

A few announcements were made by William Morrow, the Chief Executive of Clearwire, during the earnings call.

"Over the near term, we expect to launch new and improved CLEAR spot devices that connect up to eight Wi-Fi-enabled devices at anytime, including the new Apple iPad. And we're often asked about handsets and I'm pleased to announce that we will have two new 4G WiMAX handsets by the end of this year”, said Morrow.

He also said that they were working on an Android-based device with Samsung so that they could use heavy video communications that control the high capacity, low latency, high speed characteristic of their network. He also added that they were working with HTC on a second 3G/4G/WiFi enabled phone.

He also mentioned that throughout 2010 they would focus on the mobile computing space where as it is believed that smartphones would soon shift from voice to data.
