It was predicted by one of the Brian Marshall of New York equity researcher BroadPoint AmTech, that because of a deal between AT&T and Apple for the iPad 3G, the U. S. telecommunications would go on with the same carrier for the iPhone to till 2011.
It has been told by him that Apple was very impressed with AT&T's network performance for the iPhone. It was noted that AT&T wanted to remain the U. S. carrier for the Apple phone and did not want Verizon Wireless to take its place.
Apple also offered a generous and recurring monthly data program for the iPad.
A new study was also released by Global Wireless Solutions in which it compared all the major wireless providers in New York City. It was observed that Verizon and AT&T were around 99% dependable.
Assuming that GWS' data is accurate, and that AT&T did actually make the iPad deal to keep the iPhone away from Verizon a little bit longer, maybe that deal doesn't matter--at least for iPhone owners in New York.
“This is a decision that is exclusively in Apple’s court. We obviously would be interested at any point in the future they thought it would make sense for them to have us as a partner. And so we will leave it with them on that score”, said Ivan Seidenberg, Verizon CEO in the third quarter 2009.
