Fair Means Sake; Vodafone Escalating Tariffs

About 500MB monthly limit described as “absolutely ample” by the Vodafone’s spokesperson, has now announced an extra tariff form its customers for going over their mobile phone data bundle limits. With an intention "to make it fairer for everyone, and to protect Vodafone network’s from data abuse", these charges will be effective from June 1.

After the first 500MB, the monthly bundle costumers are bound to pay £5 for every 500MB; whilst, for costumers without a monthly bundle, after the first 25MB, will forfeit 50p for every 10MB.

"We are planning to introduce Out Of Bundle charging for Pay Monthly customers from 1st June 2010. The reason we're introducing these charges is to make it fairer for everyone, and to protect our network from data abuse”, reads the post on the Forum of Vodafone announcing the levy.

This piece of surprising information also explains that the company can introduce any such charging at any given point of time; ignoring the fact that how regressive can this tax be for some. If Vodafone costumers are given a two-year, £35-per-month contract with a data limit of 500MB, then at the same stretch and expense, can the costumers also get a T-mobile with a limit of 3GB at the same cost!

What will now be the Vodafone users up to? At least they will now not think of using their handsets for such high volumes of data and shall better get a mobile broadband plan!
