Finance Director and His Assistant Dismissed by RNC
Finance Director and His Assistant Dismissed by RNC

The Republican National Committee's Finance Director and his assistant were compelled to leave on Friday, as the association continued to struggle with the thwarting revelations regarding its spending practices and fundraising strategies.

Chairman Michael S. Steele asked for Rob Bickhart's and Debbie LeHardy's resignation letters, as he felt that, it was extremely necessary to streamline the department, so as to continue to make improvements in the fundraising numbers.

The instance took place after the accidental release of a PowerPoint presentation in the month of March that was proposed for in-house use by the RNC's Finance Department, which represented President Barack Obama as the Joker, and described high-level GOP donors as ego-driven.

Later in that month, came the revelation that the RNC had made a disbursement of no less than $1,900 for donors, so that they could attend a lesbian bondage-themed nightclub in Los Angeles.

Spending at the commission more in general has attracted denigration from Republican political professionals. At the end of March, the RNC had shown $11.4 million readily available, regardless of having collected over $121 million ever since the start of 2009.

In place of Bickhart as a Finance Director will be taken by Mary Heitman, a longtime fundraiser, who has deep connections with the Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour.
