German coalition defeated in the regional polls
Angela Merkel

The coalition that includes Angela Merkel's party has faced a huge defeat in the regional polls at North Rhine-Westphalia. This has been expected that this defeat can make a huge difference in the national politics.

Mrs. Merkel's national coalition is going to lose the majority in the upper house of the parliament by a slim margin. Some of the poll experts believe that the campaign was not so effective due to the huge rescue package for Greece debt crisis.

At the same time the cities of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) are now on the edge of bankruptcy. NRW is the one of the hugely populated industrial area having 18 million population; this part of the nation decides the fate of politicians. Mrs. Merkel had campaigned there till the voting but could not avoid the defeat.

The combined votes for the Greens, Social Democrats and former communist party had gone passed the number of votes of the ruling coalition of Mrs. Merkel's party. After economic crisis harming the campaign, the oppositions have also accused Mrs. Merkel of delaying the decision of the rescue package for Greece till elections.
