It was seen lately that T-Mobile USA, Deutsche Telekom’s US mobile subsidiary suffered in the first quarter by losing 77,000 customers. In between it was seen wrestling with Verizon Wireless and AT&T which were its larger competitors.
It was reported by T-Mobile USA that in the first quarter it received revenue of €3.8bn which was down by 7.8%from the same period last year. This happened because of the currency swings and customer losses. It was noted that the earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization decreased by 5% to €1bn.
It was noted that Rene Obermann, Deutsche Telekom’s Chief Executive led a turnaround of T-Mobile USA and offered industry leading download speeds.
Deutsche Telekom’s US business was behind its competitors in launching its third generation wireless network and was not able to take advantage on the growing popularity of smartphones.
It was noted that the results received by the German group were a little higher than the analysts’ expectations.
The revenue that was reported was €15.8bn for the three months to March 31. This revenue was less by 0.6% compared to the same period last year.
“These results show we got off to a good start in 2010. We have further stabilized our operations in some cases achieving substantial improvements and implemented important steps in our new strategy at the same time”, said Mr. Obermann.
