The low cost carrier service of Qantas Airways, Jetstar aims to start long-haul flights from its regional hub in Singapore to Australia, North Asia and also to various European destinations. It plans to commence these services later this year. The airline will start operations from Singapore Airport once all the necessary arrangements are in place. These measures will create 200 new aviation jobs for pilots, cabin crew, engineers and customer service staff.
Jetstar currently flies A330 aircraft to six major tourist destinations in Asia-Pacific from Australia. It also flies the shorter A320 aircraft to more than 20 destinations from the Singapore airport. The company aims to ride on the improving market conditions.
Jetstar Chief Executive, Bruce Buchanan maintained that the Company continues to increases its presence in Asian region. IATA figures already have established that Asian aviation market is now the largest in the world.
The company also maintained that the Asian market will continue to maintain a strong growth in the coming times. The Company also termed the success of its pricing strategy as the reason for its growth even as the overall market is shrinking.
The success of the company's Australia-Japan route was an example of its sound market policies. Jetstar fares are around 35-40% less as compared to its parent, Qantas Airways.
