Train passengers travelling via Ottawa and Toronto continued to face delays Thursday following a CP freight train derailed in Smiths Falls on Wednesday afternoon, VIA announced in a press release.
It is reported that passengers can expect an average delays of one to two hours in the corridor due to the derailment of a Canadian Pacific freight train that is yet to be cleared.
Westbound trains running between Ottawa and Toronto were reportedly being replaced by buses Thursday morning.
However, eastbound trains running from Toronto were scheduled to stop at Brockville. Passengers will be put on buses to get between Brockville and Ottawa.
It is reported that passengers may get a full refund or change of reservation with no services charges.
Till the derailment site is perfectly cleared, VIA Rail could not make any further claims.
The derailment is reported to involve seven loaded grain cars, a CP spokesman posted Wednesday evening. The cars stayed upright, however, posed damage to the track.
For extending assistance, VIA advises passengers to call 1-888-842-7242 or visit www. viarail. ca for updates.
