Facebook stiffens security as it pacts with the continuing fallout over changes to its privacy settings.

Amid a controversy about privacy, Facebook unveiled new security features designed to protect user accounts. These settings are aimed at protecting users from spam by alerting them of suspicious activity so that immediate action can be taken to secure accounts.

In its blog, the company stated, “We've built technical systems that operate behind the scenes to quickly detect and block suspicious behavior, delete phony posts and messages, and return compromised accounts to... their rightful owners”.

As per the new tools, users can opt for a security site in their account settings page, which will notify them when their accounts are being accessed from a computer or mobile devices that they do not recognize.

In case the Facebook account is being assessed from some other device, the user will be asked to answer verification questions, and these questions, they say, have been designed with an aim to “block suspicious logins before they happen”.

This new scheme, company’s move to personalize users’ online experience by sharing members' information with other websites has widely been criticized by the proponents of privacy.

Though the latest privacy tools have been appreciated by the users, some users have voiced their concerns through comments on the Facebook blog page.
