Loitzl shines in qualification for Four Hills third jump

Innsbruck, Austria - Austrian Wolfgang Loitzl underlined his strong form by dominating qualification Saturday for Sunday's third jump in the Four Hills ski-jumping tournament.

Loitzl, who has a narrow half-point lead over Switzerland's Simon Ammann after the first two events of the competition, reached 131 metres to finish ahead of Norway's Anders Jacobsen (128.5m) and Amman (128m).

Austrian Gregor Schlierenzauer, who is lying third, did not take part in the qualification.

Loitzl won the New Year's Day jump in the second round of the Four Hills series in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany on Thursday for his first World Cup victory.

Ammann had won the series opener on Monday in the German venue Oberstdorf, with Loitzl finishing second.

After Sunday's jump, the tour moves to the last round in Bischofshofen, Austria on Tuesday. (dpa)
