It was recently informed that an international team of researchers were camping in the Foja Mountains of Indonesia when they found a frog sitting on a bag of rice in the campsite. After Herpetologist, Paul Oliver took a closer look it turned out to be an unknown type of long-nosed frog. The scientists named it Pinocchio.
It was informed that when the frog was croaking his nose would point upward, whereas when the animal was less active it would deflate.
"We were sitting around eating lunch. Oliver looked down and there's this little frog on a rice sack, and he managed to grab the thing. Herpetologists (experts in snakes, lizards etc.) have good reflexes. He also caught a gecko, he managed to just jump and grab the thing off a tree”, recalled Smithsonian Ornithologist Chris Milensky.
It was told that the Foja Mountains were in the western side of the island of New Guinea and this part of Indonesia had not been visited much by scientists over the years.
The area was investigated by the environmental group Conservation International with the help of the National Geographic Society and Smithsonian Institution.
On Monday, the results of their 2008 expedition were publicized. It was told by Milensky that the mission was extremely difficult.
He added that the area was extremely wet and there were heavy downpours every day. The camp changed into a complete mud bog.
