It was seen lately that a teenage engineer had won several awards at US science fair for a device which was used to save lives.
The design was made by James Popper, 18 years old, from Wiltshire. It helped in detecting kitchen fires without setting off false alarms.
He planned to design this device after his elderly friend with dementia had a devastating kitchen fire.
It was noticed that around 1,600 students had taken part in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in San Jose last week.
It was noticed that the CookerSmart design senses the infrared in flames and reduced the possibility of false alarms.
It was seen that the Marlborough College student won awards which included the best of category award for Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, and an invitation to the Stockholm International Youth Science Seminar.
It was also noted that he stood first in the US Government Patent and Trademark Office Society Award. He also won the award of the United Technologies Corporation Prize.
Cash awards, two scholarships, company shares and a grant for his school were received by James.
He also informed the BBC the device was focused at people who were suffering from disabilities and had been assessed by Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.
"I've had quite a bit of interest. I've been able to establish a device that can help save lives and win these fantastic awards", he added.
