A medical study has found that the number of people with insurance visiting Emergency Room is equal to the number of people using Emergency Room without any type of medical insurance. It was done to determine the types of visitors who use hospital Emergency Rooms.
Most of the people feel that insured people normally use ERs for treatment. But equal number of uninsured people also use hospital Emergency Rooms.
The total number of people visiting ERs in the year 2007 was 116,802,000 and around 20% of the Americans have visited ERs in the past one year. There are times when a patient is very impatient and straightaway goes to an Emergency Room for treatment.
Some other things were also found in the study. People who are insured are treated equally as compared to patients without any medical insurance.
Older people, African-Americans, poor people and those with Medicaid are more likely to have visited an Emergency Room in the last one year as compared to other people.
People covered under Medicaid were more likely to visit hospitals more than one time during the last 12 months as compared to other people.
Medical experts are not surprised with the findings of this study. An important reason that people visited an Emergency Room is that it offers immediate treatment to the patients.
