Government Introduces HIPS

With an aim to speed up the house selling process was introduced Home Information Packs (HIPS). This was processed to be done by obliging sellers to offer certain information about their property when it is first put up for sale.

As these packs are paid for sellers and cost several hundred pounds each, the Ministers had speculated that this reform will help consumers to save up to £870 million over the next 10 years. But in reaction, the energy performance certificates will be kept hold of, which show how energy efficient a property is.

Housing minister Grant Shapps said, “Home sellers will get immediate relief. It means they can put their house on the market without having to shell out thousands of pounds”.

To avoid uncertainty and to prevent a slump in an already brittle housing market, the Government had today, immediately made an announcement regarding when exactly the packs would be scrapped. The packs have been welcomed by housing experts as they consider them to help home owners and the housing souk at large.

But many are of the view that HIPS has failed to cater to the problems for which it had started its missions off.
