Actor John Travolta’s 16-year-old son, Jett Travolta, who had a history of seizures, died suddenly during a holiday at his family’s resort home on Grand Bahama Island. Having arrived in Grand Bahama on December 30 for family gathering for New Year, the Travoltas intended staying at their resort home till January 9.
Though Jett, Travolta’s eldest child, was diagnosed of Kawasaki Syndrome - which leads to inflammation of the blood vessels in young children - when he was a toddler, the ailment does not appear to be the likely cause of his death.
According to Police Superintendent Basil Rahming, Jett was found unconscious in a bathroom, on Friday morning, by his 24-hour nanny, Jeff Kathrein. He was rushed to Rand Memorial Hospital in Freeport, where he was declared dead.
Rahming said that an autopsy, which could determine the cause of Jett’s sudden death, would probably be performed on Monday.
It is not known if Jett had autism, but it is established that he had seizures – and, that explains the need for a full-time caretaker, a baby monitor device by his side, and a chimer in the bathroom when the door opened! But whether Jett was taking the typically prescribed anti-epilepsy drugs (AEDs) for seizures is not clear.
The publicists of the obviously “distraught” Travolta family refused to comment either on autopsy or funeral plans. Nevertheless, Michael McDermott, who is a Tampa-based attorney and a family friend, informed the Ocala’s Star-Banner newspaper, that the funeral was being arranged in Ocala, a city in north-central Florida.
