Just two weeks before the release of the film, uncertainty prevailed about the showing of film in oil-rich Abu Dhabi. During shooting of the film, Emirates' officials had not granted permission to the crew for shooting at the location
The part one of the sequels was not shown in the United Arab Emirates because of strict censor norms.
Shooting Stars, The UAE representatives of Warner Bros. said that Emirates officials still had not decided for bringing the film to cinemas in the Gulf states.
The film also exposes the complexity of Gulf social life.
Leila Hudson, Graduate Director of Near Eastern studies at the University of Arizona said that refusal of UAE from participation in the film reflects a desire "control their brand."
Abu Dhabi is on the path of development and so had exerted pressure on the Dubai authorities to adopt Western-style freedoms
A couple convicted of breaking moral codes by sharing a kiss in one of the restaurants in Dubai has been sentenced with one month jail.
Hyacinth Quijano, an Assistant Manager for Reel Cinemas in the Dubai Mall said "Sometimes distributors and local censor board make changes at the last minute" and hoped that decks might get cleared for local theaters
