Shooting incidents reported since last Thursday in Bangkok and the Thai Government's crackdown on protesters there on Wednesday have caused in even more Singaporeans cancelling their highly popular holiday destination.
Five travel companies have revealed to have witnessed cancellations and postponements of 10 to 80 per cent of trips scheduled to depart in March when the protests were first reported.
Ms. Joan Tay of JP International Travel quoted, "Singaporeansare avoiding Thailand totally. Compared to a month ago, the situation has gone from bad to worse."
Thailand is typically a highly preferred destination for a mid-year holiday, however, Singaporeans are not going there at all now, avoiding even other areas like Phuket or Koh Samui, she posted.
Nearly 70 per cent of its customers went ahead with trips to Bangkok last month, however, everyone has reportedly cancelled for this month and next month, she added.
Instead, majority of them have chosen to visit neighboring destinations such as Bali, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Vietnam.
In addition, Japan Airlines has announced to cut its number of flights from Osaka and Nagoya to Bangkok from seven flights per week to four and three per week, respectively.
