Jennifer Aniston, Owen Wilson together with their mischievous canine pet seem to have lost none of their box office bite. The family tale, about a pair of newly weds and their lovable though untrainable Labrador Retriever, remained the No. 1 favorite of movie goers for the second-straight weekend, grossing $106.5-million since its Xmas day opening.
No new releases this weekend meant that like the previous one, Disney's 'Bedtime Stories', a comedy with Adam Sandler stayed in second place, followed by romantic drama 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button' starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett. Tom Cruise's World War II saga 'Valkyrie' stood at No. 4, with 'Yes Man' Jim Carrey's comedy at No. 5.
This holiday season loaded with wartime stories, saw the limited release of two more Nazi-themed films i. e. Paramount Vantage's Oscar contender 'Defiance', starring Daniel Craig, and which is a story of Jewish brothers forming a band of freedom fighters against the Nazis in Eastern Europe. The second, ThinkFilm's 'Good' with Viggo Mortensen, is about an upright German academic, who is gradually seduced into becoming one of the Nazis, as World War II approaches.
'Marley & Me' which is getting great word of mouth, remains the one film, audiences look forward to relax and unwind over the holidays.
