Suspect Arrested For String Of Robberies

Uniformity of robberies and anonymous tips from citizens have helped the police arrest Boston resident Preston Jackson, 42, as he attempted to rob his eighth store in the Newbury Street area, using the same method as in his other robberies in the same area.

Without any attempt to disguise himself, on Saturday, Jackson walking into the Bon Bon store on Massachusetts Avenue, a few blocks from Newbury Street, handed the store clerk a note, reading: 'Give me the money and no one will be shot.' On being told that the store had security cameras, Jackson fled, employees called 911 and police arrested Jackson a short time later, bringing him back to the store, where the Bon Bon employees identified him.

Jackson, from 18th December through 3rd January, made a killing, robbing Finagle a Bagel on Boylston Street; Chemistry, Footstock, and Dependable Cleaners on Newbury Street, Starbucks on Brookline Avenue in the Fenway, including others of hundreds of dollars.

According to Police Superintendent Bruce A. Holloway, Chief of the Bureau of Investigative Services, the public asked to help in nailing Jackson, kept the calls coming in, which helped them arrest Jackson, who will be arraigned today in Boston Municipal Court, charged with armed robbery.
