About 30,000 people are expected to participate in the 19th Annual Susan G. Komen Detroit Race.
The event starts at Comerica Park on Saturday and includes five kilometer competitive race and five-kilometer and one-mile walks.
A fund of $17.5 million has been raised by the Detroit race for the fight against breast cancer since 1992.
The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute has been the event's presenting sponsor for 18 years.
Nancy Brinker created the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization in memory of her sister killed by breast cancer. It sponsors a road-running series and a range of other programs.
Supported by $303,000 in new grants from the St. Louis Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Curer, Saint Louis University Cancer Center is said to increase screenings for breast cancer and emergency economic assistance.
