The FIFA World Cup soccer tournament is going to begin on June 11 in South Africa, but along with that a question has been raised that why this game is so unpopular in the United States and popular in Europe.
A professor and chairman of Germanic languages and literatures in Arts & Sciences named Stephan Schindler gives a reason for this question that in United States, it is very difficult for soccer to get a drive in the sport space, as the games like football, basketball, baseball and ice hockey compete with each other and they are very popular here.
When Americans came to know about the fact that the soccer is known as a working class game and it is associated with labor union and even socialism, they tend to unaccepted the game. However, there is enough corporate sponsorship available and many young Americans play soccer, there is not the kind of local recognition with a team that drives European soccer.
Soccer might be boring for the audience of America because of its low scoring and there are not many statistics available for individual players as compared to baseball. Although, popular support for soccer has remained sluggish in this country, the game has exploded as a universal magnetism.
"I think the game is so popular because the rules are simple, one only needs a ball to play and games can be played with any formation of players, from two to dozens," Schindler said. In Europe soccer teams enjoy amazingly loyal local support. Moreover the sport is organized into club teams in Europe.
