Operation Red Nose received an overwhelming success in 2008. The campaign invites volunteer to drive home drunken drivers and their vehicles to their homes.
The service has been activated in 100 communities in Canada. Nearly 68,555 riders were driven to safety under the program. Usually it is the partygoers who need assistance of Operation Red Nose brigade to drive them home safely.
The program was initiated in 1994 in Quebec City. At present it is effective in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. About 49,816 people are participating in the program.
More than $10,800 have been collected with the effort of the clients. It is expected that with the support of sponsors for the program more than $30,000 youth grants and programs for seniors would also be initiated by the campaign.
In addition to taking care of drunken drivers the organization also aims at raising funds for youth and amateur sports organizations. The organization solicits donations and non-profit organizations interested to join the campaign can call the national office at 1-800-463-7222.
An appreciation event is planned for operation Red Nose by the volunteers and sponsors on 10 Jan.
