2009’s first baby of BC born 3 minutes past midnight

The first BC baby in the year 2009 was born at Abbotsford’s Regional Hospital and Cancer Center, 3 minutes past midnight.

The baby is the first child of 21-year old Navdeep Sandhu. The baby boy weighed six pounds, five ounces at birth.

Mother Navdeep Sandhu was unaware of a concept called “New Year’s Baby” when she went into labor. Her husband was not beside her at the time of the delivery. He is waiting for clearance to enter Canada and is presently in India.

According to Simrita Johal-Virk with Fraser Health, the baby is yet to be christened as the mother wants to perform some religious ceremonies.

The mother and the baby are doing well.
