E. coli Superbug Affects Health Workers the Most

The delirium bug affects doctors and health workers more than common people, found a study.

The last year's outbreak of the infection by this super powerful bug causing fever and irregular heartbeats gripped mainly the health workers who fell seriously sick following regular prostate biopsies.

The study recently published claims that the physicians are at a higher risk of developing infections because of multi-drug resistant E. coli bacteria. The study revealed that infectious bacteria is carried from job and it invades the bloodstream while biopsies.

The study has been backed by Urologists who also reported similar incidents.

It was informed by Dr. Ricardo Rendon, a Dalhousie University Urology Professor and Co-author of the study that a group of Urologists will be presenting its own paper on the phenomenon in a conference to be held in June.

Dr. Rendon also said that the issue was a severe threat and should be taken very seriously.

Also talking about the three recent cases detected, Dr. Rendon said medical professionals face a risk from drug-resistant pathogens.

The study also stated that health-care system is unwilling to know the number of workers carrying infections as it may result in keeping a number of workers out of the job and the main problem is that health department is already short of employees.
