Premier Colin Barnett has expressed his disagreement over the idea of making the 3D color ultrasounds mandatory for women opting for an abortion.
The proposal was put forth by WA Liberal MP Peter Abetz, attended to an anti-abortion near the Parliament House last night.
Mr. Abetz was a pastor before he joined politics. In a radio interview, he said that nearly 100,000 women in WA have undergone an abortion since the enactment of the law in 1998.
"People are recognizing that there are far too many abortions and that would be one way of helping reduce the number of abortions", he said.
He added that a huge number of abortions are taking place and thus, the women need to be aware of it.
Mr. Barnett said that there are rising number of pregnancies and they require support and improved management. He further said it will be too tough for everyone to afford these costs.
However, Jill Michelson, a national clinical advisor for Marie Stopes International, has opposed to the point that pregnancies are on the rise, saying that the figures have been taken from Medicare and those record include miscarriages, as well.
