In order to enhance the level of healthcare policies, WellPoint Inc is planning to introduce some new provisions of a proposed law aiming to help the breast cancer patients.
The health insurer has indicated that it will enforce the policy changes from July 1. It will introduce some specified guidelines for women recovering from mastectomy for providing them with a minimum stay of 48 hours.
The Company said that lot of its clients are already availing the standard care as recommended in the legislation, but the new policies will encourage more clients to subscribe.
The Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act has some more provisions which reflect the benefits more easily.
WellPoint is facing a severe criticism from the US administration over the Company’s act of using computer algorithms to target women with breast cancer for an investigation. This was done for revising the policies.
WellPoint explained that the report was inaccurate and baseless. The administration has also directed it to provide the reasons for the flaw in its evaluation process which prompted the company to introduce a 39% premium rate hike in California.
“The Insurer is guaranteeing patients will have the freedom to discuss their treatment options with their physician without worrying about being discharged from the hospital before they are ready", said DeLauro.
