According to People. com, over the holiday season, actress Jennifer Love Hewitt, 29, and fiancé Ross McCall, 32, 'broke up over the holidays and have ended their engagement' and both are 'really sad about it'. The news has surprised not only us, but their friends as well, as the two who have been dating each other for the last few years, seemed really happy together.

At this point of time, no one is clear as to who called off the engagement, or whether the break-up was mutual, or if there is another side to the story. Of late, Hewitt has been making quite a bit of news, bubbling with hope and excitement regarding her pending nuptials, saying things like: 'I'm getting ready to turn 30 and get married and all those things. This year was my year to try to glow from within and feel better.'

Representatives for both 'The Ghost Whisperer' star and her Scottish actor fiancé, who appeared in one episode of Hewitt's hit show in 2006, refused to comment.
