TAVI Provides New Hope for Cardiac Patients in Alberta

Reports claim that TAVI is the new less invasive heart procedure that is now available to the residents of Alberta.

TAVI, which is Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation, would also be soon available in Calgary.

Experts claim that with the advent of this procedure, for the first time the critically ill heart patients would find new hope.

The procedure is a blessing in disguise for the patients who suffer with aortic stenosis, which is a condition that blocks the aortic valve of the heart.

Reports suggest that the surgeons at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute would now be able to perform an innovative method for replacing the diseased heart valves.

According to the Alberta Health Services TAVI provides for a good alternative to patients who already have pre-existing medical conditions which make the open-heart surgery too risky.

According to Dr. Steven Meyer, the Cardiac Surgeon at the University of Alberta, "Before, with a lot of these high-risk patients, you would have to turn them down for surgery or you would proceed with extremely high-risk surgery in the hopes you would get them through ".

Reports claim that till now three patients have undergone the transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI).
