According to the latest reports, Marvell Technologies has joined hands with the OLPC foundation. The two organizations have partnered to create a working $100 tablet for CES 2011.
Reports confirm that Marvell Technologies has announced that it would create the hardware for the proposed tablet, which is currently named the XO-3.
The move is followed after the success of the OLPC XO-1 laptop.
As per the industry sources, the XO-3 boasts of 1 watt per hour power rating which they claim to be extremely impressive. Other features that are a part of this tablet are a multilingual, multitouch-screen keyboard with haptic feedback.
Loaded with Wi-Fi, high-quality video (1080p full-HD encodes and decode), integrated video and still cameras, the tablet is in tune with the latest features.
The tablet also entails high-performance 3D graphics, Flash 10 Internet, and two-way teleconferencing.
However, the backbone of the XO-3 is claimed to be an ARM processor (likely the Marvell Armada 610), with the initial models running on a version of Google's Android OS.
Reports claim that the initial models would be sold within the developed nations, to children and institutions that are supported by the foundation.
Though the claims for $100 a tablet seem extremely ambitious, however, the experts are anxious to see what the Marvell and OLPC have in store for the January CES 2011.
