Symantec made an announcement regarding Norton Everywhere today, which is a new approach to security that dumps the customary PC-centric model and takes a more holistic move towards delivering security all over Internet-enabled equipments.
Norton DNS, a component of Norton Everywhere, offers optional DNS servers that can be used by any Internet-connected tool for a faster and safer surfing experience.
Symantec spokesperson while commenting via e-mail said that the company was introducing Norton DNS, so as to address the speedily growing requirement for web safety across all the gadgets that a customer and their family may use to browse the web, from their Nintendo Wii to their new Apple iPad.
If you ping PCWorld.com, you will be able to see the IP address linked with it is 70.42.185.10. You could type `http://70.42.185.10" and get to the similar page, but memorizing the IP address for each Web page you may want to visit is much more tricky than just typing in `pcworld. com' and permitting DNS do its thing.
There are other public DNS services such as OpenDNS and Google Public DNS. Google's DNS service, for instance Symantec's, is drafted in such a way to provide a faster and safer Web surfing experience.
