Houston’s New Project to Provide Jobs

To handle the technological tasks for the airline that has emerged from the merger between Continental and United airlines, Houston will be home to “a significant head office headquarters presence”. This news has been assured by the CEO of United.

In an attempt to downplay the prospective ailing effects of the corporate marriage on 3,000 Continental Airlines headquarters personnel based in Houston, no other specifics have been mentioned. Glenn Tilton, Senior Executive for Texaco and based in Houston, said that his job gave him “every appreciation for doing business. That's why we will have a significant presence in Houston, a significant head office headquarters presence”.

To handle the technology requirements of the new company based in Houston, there are a lot of opportunities for recruiting people, which will serve as a “tremendous resource” for more jobs. This will be followed by a commitment to Houston for significant employees.

A reassurance has been given to Cornyn and other lawmakers by Jeff Smisek, Chairman, President and CEO of Continental that, establishment of an international airline with 700 aircraft and 370 destinations in 59 countries would endow with solidity for the new carrier that would eventually look after jobs.

Yet, the Company also proclaimed that there will be some drop downs in the headquarter jobs.
