In what can be termed as the ‘third wave’ of Netbook laptops, HP has recently released its new Mini 2140 Notebook PC, especially designed for the mobile professionals. Along with the fundamental ‘low-cost, low-power’ computing concept, the new netbook has added in some handy extras and features.
The 2140 is a revised alternate to HP’s original 2133 Mini-Note. It sports the same durable brushed-metal chassis and first-rate keyboard as 2133, but has a bigger 10-inch LED display screen, an Intel Atom processor, and six-cell battery for more than seven hours of battery life. Priced at $529, the netbook, with fast-charge technology and hard drive protection, is the best option for professionals on the move.
Though the new netbook retains its predecessor’s aluminum construction, it is even more durable because of its metal alloy hinges with hardened steel pin axles. HP claims that the new design can undergo the closing and opening of the lid 25,000 times, which means ten cycles a day for six years.
The netbook features hard-drive options including standard platter drives up to 160GB and solid-state drives up to 80GB. Placed next to its rival 10-inch netbooks – like the Samsung NC10, ASUS Eee PC 1000H, Lenovo IdeaPad S10, and the MSI Wind - 2140 is definitely compact.
The netbook snugly fits in a small shoulder bag, and along with its AC adapter, it weighs a comfortable 3.4 pounds!
