South Korea intensified its campaign over the issue of North Korea sinking one of its warships. This is aimed at convincing its own people and the whole world about the latest act of aggression by North Korea. It is also sharing the evidence with Russian torpedo experts and also preparing a special briefing where influential bloggers and Twitter personalities will also be present.
Along with these steps, South Korea started military exercises near the border and these are aimed at fending off an attack from its aggressive neighbor. South Korean army stressed that it was a routine military drill and not related to the ship attack. The practice involved building and defending pontoon bridge as many tanks crossed a river as helicopters buzzed overhead.
South Korea is also lobbying to get support for UN action against North Korea. It is blaming North Korea for attacking a warship and killing 46 sailors in March. It will be important to secure Russia's backing as Russia is a veto-holding permanent Security Council member.
The Russian team which arrived on Monday has torpedo and submarine experts and it also received a briefing from the Army. Various international groups also participated in the investigation process.
South Korea had earlier also shared the investigation's findings with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao last weekend before a summit. The Government also wants an official apology form the North Korean Government.
