According to a survey conducted by a collaboration of TNS and Yahoo! Indonesia, nearly 57% respondents from the age group of 50 and above access their accounts on social networking sites on a regular basis.
Business Director and Group Head of TNS Indonesia Karthik Venkatakrishnan said that it is no more established that social networking sites are restricted to the youth only.
“You now have older people which get into social networking. It's not really just for the young anymore. It goes beyond," he said.
He added that the internet users prefer the use of these networking sites for enhancing their social circle and not only for business purposes.
He also said that social networking has grown above simple emailing and sending messages. At present, it has become the most important medium for communication.
He also said that the earlier researches conducted by the team observed that the usage of emails was greater than social networking over internet.
The social networking has given an entirely novel look to the online environment.
According to the latest research, about 68% of the respondents agreed that they use social networking to interact with their friends and families. Another 56% indulge in uploading and sharing pictures.
