Bronfman Urges Paris Court to Drop Charges over Vivendi Trial
Warner Music Group Corp. Chief Executive Officer Edgar Bronfman

According to the latest reports, Warner Music Group Corp. Chief Executive Officer Edgar Bronfman Jr.'s lawyer has urged a Paris court to drop charges against him on the Vivendi charges.

The lawyer asked the Paris court to drop the insider trading charges that were slapped on him to adjudge whether Vivendi SA executives were misled by the investors.

It is believed that one of the seven defendants in the case also sought the dismissal of the insider trading charges.

Bronfman's lawyer, Georges Kiejman told judges on the first day of the trail that, "Mr. Bronfman should not be before this court. The investigating judge was wrong to send Mr. Bronfman to trial "without any explanation".

According to a report written in 2009 by the Paris prosecutor, Chantal de Leiris, the case against the Bronfman should be dropped, since the case that was compiled by the investigating judge did not generate adequate information for the charges.

Bronfman and former Vivendi CEO Jean-Marie Messier have been on trial in a case to adjudge whether the investors were misled and misinformed about the company's financial health.

Reports claim that Bronfman, aged 54, became a Vivendi Vice Chairman after the conclusion of the $34 billion sale of Seagram Co. to Vivendi in 2000.
