Pushed to respond on the issue of more payments for slower broadband in U. S., FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski said that in order to deal with the issue, the Government has devised a plan.
He added that, "I think we are going to have spectrum congestion for a long time".
Genachowski indicated at the role that the unlicensed spectrum played, highlighting the implications when the FCC had opened up a particular part of the spectrum.
He further said that the reason for slower broadband was due to the fact that the country spent more money into a universal fund for phone calls. However, not much was spent on the broadband. According to him, the recent court rulings had hampered the shift of the money.
Amongst the other impacts of slower broadband, was the slow rate of overall innovation. Citing the fact that chip gear maker Applied Materials moved its chief technology officer to China, in the wake that China encompassed all the action.
Voicing concern over consumers' lack of information to make informed choices, Genachowski said that four in five consumers were unaware of the speed of their home broadband network.
He emphasized that the area called for immediate attention as speed mattered.
Genachowski also made a special mention of the efforts that have put in at universal home broadband gateways. However, the target for the introduction of the same is not till 2010.
