The officials stated that construction on the museum which has been dedicated to Michael Jackson's legacy in his hometown is expected to begin next year. The project will cost around $300m, and will draw about 750,000 visitors a year to Gary, Indiana.
Joe, Michel Jackson’s father has endorsed plans. He said, “This is something that my family and Michael have always wanted. We're bringing something back”.
Though, Jackson visited the town in 2003, to initiate talk about the plans but no work began before his death last year. The project would be able to generate up to $150m for the town every year, according to Gary's mayor, Rudy Clay. People from all over the world would be drawn towards this magnetic piece of work.
The town will donate 300 acres of land to the project, which will kickstart progress towards the facility. Mr. Clay added that money for the building work will be derived from donations and private investors.
Clay said, “The money will not be an issue. I know personally that investors are standing and ready”.
The 24 year old Seretha Harvey revealed it to the associated press that the town has been deteriorating in recent years and that the project would never be completed.
