Luca di Montezemolo confirmed that Ferrari is tailoring a Spider variant of the 458 Italia, but the Ferrari team is not ready to reveal anything about the much anticipated car’s ‘topless’ mechanism.
It has been rumored that the vehicle will be having a canvas roof. Other perditions state that 458 Italia Spider will be having a foldable metal roof something very similar to what has been seen on the California.
With a convertible and foldable metal roof, it is expected that Italia’s weight will be compromised resulting in a declined acceleration performance.
It is also said that like the coupe variant, the Spider will feature a 562hp 4.5 liter V8.
Also the vehicle is expected to be without any engine tuning, i. e., it will have 540Nm of torque, plus 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The vehicle will probably show up by the end of 2011 would be the earliest.
Other noticeable features in Italia are Danger Ejection Sea, Do not Paint, No Handhold on the side mirror wings and rivet graphics with warnings like Heater Exhaust, Beware of Jetblast above the three tailpipes.
The motor will give 0 to 100 km/h figure in 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 325km/h.
